The 22nd International Soil Tillage Research Organization (ISTRO) Conference was held in Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA from September 22 to 27, 2024. This conference was jointly organized by ISTRO and Virginia Tech, under the theme of "Living Roots, Living Soil". More than 160 scientists from over 40 countries, including China, the United States, Germany, France attended this important event.
The conference featured 10 parallel sessions, covering topics including Tillage, Soil and Water Management, Soil Compaction, Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition, and Precision agriculture. Participants made in-depth discussions on enhancing agricultural sustainability and improving tillage practices.
Dr. Xinjun Huang of School of Environmental Engineering, Henan University of Technology and member from Henan International Joint Laboratory of Environmental Pollution, Remediation and Grain Quality Security attended the conference and served as the moderator of the “Global food security challenges” session. During the event, Dr. Huang communicated with colleagues on research topics related to farmland soil management and soil compaction, such interactions laid a solid foundation for potential research collaboration and academic exchange between scientist of HAUT and other countries.
Founded in 1973, ISTRO is a non-profit scientific and educational organization and a partner of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It is dedicated to promoting scientific exchange in areas such as soil, tillage, the environment, land use, and crop production. ISTRO hosts its international conference every three years, with recent events being held in Paris, Nanjing, and Montevideo in Uruguay.
The School of Environmental Engineering has long encouraged faculties and students to actively participate in international academic exchanges, expanding academic horizons and enhancing research capabilities. Dr Huang’s attendance of the ISTRO conference not only solidified the international influence in the field of farmland soil and environmental but also offered great opportunities for future international collaboration of HAUT.
